Gutters are the least glamorous part of a house and the one most likely to cause expensive damage when ignored. A single clogged run can push water into places that cost thousands to repair.
What a Clog Actually Does
When a gutter fills, water backs up over the front edge and behind the fascia board. Wet fascia rots, the rot spreads to the roof decking edge, and eventually the gutter's own fasteners lose their grip and the whole run sags.
Overflow also runs straight down the wall, leaving vertical stains on siding and depositing tannin streaks that are difficult to remove once they set.
The Foundation Problem
Gutters exist to move roof runoff away from the foundation. When they overflow, all that volume dumps at the base of the wall instead. In Arkansas clay soils that repeated soak-and-dry cycle moves soil, and moving soil moves foundations.
It also erodes mulch beds, drowns plantings, and can push water toward crawl space vents.
Timing in Central Arkansas
Twice a year works for most properties: once in late fall after the leaves are down, and once in spring before the heavy storm season arrives. Properties under mature oaks or pines usually need a third visit.
Spring cleaning matters most, because that is when the heaviest sustained rainfall hits and a clogged system has no chance to keep up.
What a Professional Cleaning Includes
We clear the gutter runs by hand, flush the downspouts to confirm they actually drain, bag and remove the debris rather than dropping it in the beds, and check for sagging sections, loose fasteners, and separated seams while we are up there.
